We provide basic clinical training for settings, which range from neonatal intensive care units, early intervention, schools, outpatient clinics, telehealth, home health, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities. IUP's curriculum prepares students to earn national certification and state licensure to practice in both healthcare and educational settings. Simulations are embedded within every course and they increase in complexity as students gain knowledge and skills. Undergraduate students start participating in simulation experiences during the Introduction to Communication Disorders course. We use simulations to ease any student worries about the medical side of the profession during scaffolded experiences with our manikins. The IUP Speech-Language Pathology program also has an innovative hospital simulation lab. We teach students how to adapt clinical services based upon patient features such as socioeconomic status, age, culture, and language. ![]() Speech-Language Pathology classes are infused with a Passport to Culture program. Most incoming students qualify for scholarships that are renewable every year. Our curriculum supplements basic prerequisite coursework for graduate school with content in a variety of clinical disorders with immersive simulations and the early opportunity to provide treatment in our campus clinic.
